CIS 2019 (1): "We hunt digital efficiency" and "Who of you believes in unicorns?"

FH-Prof.

FH-Prof. DI Dr. Heimo Losbichler, ICV Chairman and Chairman of the International Group of Controlling (IGC), Program Director CRF – Controlling, Accounting and Financial Management, FH Upper School of Economics and Management (Steyr), opens the #cis2019_controlling with its 350 participants in the hall of the Museum Arbeitswelt. The CIS focus this year was deliberately chosen with “automotive industry” against the backdrop of the economic downturn and rapid change. The situation is contradictory; you can find positive headlines, e.g. on powerful investments in new plants, as well as negative headlines about massive job cuts. Uncertainty prevails throughout the industry, and the supplier industry is currently forecasting declines in sales and margins. Nevertheless, an outlook on changes in the automotive industry under the heading “Mobility as a Service” offers a wide range of opportunities. In general, all present and future changes bring “a lot of work for controllers,” says Prof. Losbichler. Another focus of #cis2019_controlling is the topic “digitization”. This should also be illuminated both from the positive perspective (“opportunities”), as well as from the negative, “threatening” (“job losses”).

The first CIS 2019 speaker, Dkfm. Peter Haidenek, CFO and Member of the Management Board of Polytec Holding AG, Hörsching, speaks about “Current challenges for controlling in the automotive industry”. After an important insights-opening overview of his company and its challenges, Haidenek first explains how the subject of “digitization” is treated there. “We hunt digital efficiency” by e.g. improvement the quality of information, explains Haidenek. Interesting are then his remarks on the work of controlling in agile teams and in “competence teams”. The speaker referres to this as a “revolutionary other collaboration of experts”. The fact that interesting insights were offered in this speech is shown by the many questions from the listeners.

“Who of you believes in unicorns?”, starts her presentation the next speaker, Judith Schwarz, Commercial Responsibility (GROW/COR), grow platform GmbH. That only very few listeners raise their hands on their question, did not surprise her, explains Judith Schwarz. She presents Bosch’s “Unicorn Factory” as a basis for the successful development of start-up initiatives. Her topic, “Controlling with unicorns – challenges for the controlling of start-ups in large enterprises”, has already provided suspense in the run-up. The overview of the Bosch Grow platform was followed by the detailed description of the “Bosch Innovation Framework”. With this, innovation projects are systematically assessed, whether they offer a potential for the “unicorn”. Judith Schwarz vividly described which requirements are placed on controlling and how they are fulfilled. It is interesting to see how the day-to-day business of “unicorns” works together, for example with the help of the SCRUM method. – Also after this offering deep insights, interesting speech the participants vividly used the opportunity to ask some questions.

With this thrilling presentation the first stage of the #cis2019_controlling came to an end. It was followed by the communicative coffee break.
