Diplom-Kaufmann, Dr. Walter Germeroth, Mitbegründer des Internationalen Controller Vereins (ICV), ist am 31. Dezember 2018 im Alter von 94 Jahren verstorben. Seit dem 15.02.1975 bis zu seinem Tod war Dr. Germeroth ICV-Mitglied mit der Mitgliedsnummer 6.
Seit 1965 persönlich aus Seminaren Dr. Deyhles bekannt, verband den Verstorbenen mit dem ICV-Gründer und Ehrenvorsitzenden Dr. Albrecht Deyhle eine langjährige Freundschaft. Als Dr. Deyhle Ende 1974, Anfang 1975 die Gründung des Controller Vereins vorbereitete, unterstützte ihn sein Freund, der damalige stellvertretende Geschäftsführer der Suchard Schokoladenwerke GmbH, Lörrach.
In der „Gründungsgeschichte des ICV“ wird berichtet: „In Augsburg, beim Notar Dr. Friedrich Kastenbauer, trafen sich Dr. Blazek, Dr. Deyhle, Trainer an der Controller Akademie, Herr Dietz, Herr Helffenstein, beides Absolventen der besagten Stufe 5, und Dr. Jehle, Wirtschaftsprüfer der Controller Akademie und Freund Dr. Deyhles. Im Gepäck waren zudem noch unterzeichnete Vollmachten von Dr. Küchle, Psychologe und ebenfalls Trainer an der Controller Akademie, sowie Dr. Germeroth, langjähriger Kunde von Dr. Deyhle, zusammen also die sieben Mitglieder, die für die Gründung eines Vereins nötig waren. Diese sieben waren die Gründungsmitglieder.“
Von der ersten Minute trug Dr. Germeroth zur erfolgreichen Entwicklung des Vereins bei, wie etwa durch die Gewinnung von Teilnehmern und Leitern der entstehenden Arbeitskreise. An ICV-Controller-Kongressen nahm er als gefragter Finanz- und Controlling-Experte teil und hielt dort Vorträge. Schon auf dem ersten Kongress am 24. Mai 1976 referierte er in Frankfurt/M. vor 230 Teilnehmern. Dort wurde u.a. nach einem „treffsicheren deutschen Ausdruck für ‚Controller‘“ gesucht. Die Podiumsdiskussion ist im damals ganz jungen Controller Magazin dokumentiert. An der Debatte zur Rolle der Controller war Dr. Germeroth mit einer treffenden Beschreibung beteiligt. Zur These, der „Controller sei verantwortlich für das Armaturenbrett, aber nicht der Chauffeur“, merkte er an: „Ich bin der Meinung, dass auf jeden Fall der Controller mehr als dieses Armaturenbrett herstellen und einrichten soll, sondern dass er vom Fahren auch etwas verstehen muss, sonst kann er nicht steuernd helfen. Persönlich bin ich der Auffassung, der Controller hat in erster Linie so eine Stellung wie ein innerbetrieblicher Berater.“
Über viele Jahre war Dr. Germeroth, auch als Geschäftsführer Finanzen, dem ICV und der CA Controller Akademie treu verbunden. Zuletzt nahm er 2012 an einer ICV-Mitgliederversammlung teil. Am 1. Advent 2018 sind sich Dr. Deyhle und Dr. Germeroth noch einmal im Familienkreis persönlich begegnet.

Commercial graduate, Dr. Walter Germeroth, co-founder of the International Association of Controllers (ICV), died on December 31, 2018 at the age of 94 years. From 15/02/1975 until his death, Dr. Germeroth was the ICV member with membership number 6.
Knowing each other from Deyhle’s seminars since 1965, Dr. Germeroth and the ICV founder and Honorary Chairman Dr. Albrecht Deyhle were longtime friends. As Dr. Deyhle at the end of 1974, at the beginning of 1975, prepared the founding of the Controller Association, his friend, then deputy managing director of Suchard Schokoladenwerke GmbH, Lörrach, supported him.
In the „history of the foundation of the ICV” it is reported: “In Augsburg, at the Notary Dr. Friedrich Kastenbauer, Dr. Blazek, Dr. Deyhle, trainer at the Controller Akademie, Mr. Dietz, Mr. Helffenstein, both graduates of Level 5, and Dr. Jehle, certified public accountant of the Controller Akademie and friend of Dr. Deyhles, met. There were also signed authorizations of Dr. Küchle, psychologist and also trainer at the Controller Akademie, as well as Germeroth, longtime customer of Dr. Deyhle, so together the seven members who were needed for the establishment of an association. These seven were the founding members.”
From the first minute, Dr. Germeroth contributed to the successful development of the Association, by e.g. attracting participants and leaders of the emerging work groups. He took part at the ICV Congresses of Controllers as a sought-after financial and controlling expert and held speeches there. Already at the first Congress on May 24, 1976, he spoke in Frankfurt/M. in front of 230 participants. There was e.g. a search for a “unerring German expression for a ‘controller’ there”. The podium discussion is documented in the then very young Controller Magazin. In the debate on the role of controllers, Dr. Germeroth got involved with an apt description. He discusses the thesis that “a controller is responsible for the dashboard, but is not the driver”: „In my opinion it’s clear that a controller should produce and set up more than this dashboard in any case, but that they should understand something about driving, otherwise they cannot help to steer. Personally, I think that the controller is primarily in the position of an in-house consultant.”
For many years Dr. Germeroth, also as Managing Director Finance, was loyal to the ICV and the CA Controller Akademie. Most recently, in 2012, he took part at the ICV General Meeting. At the first day of the advent 2018 Dr. Deyhle and Dr. Germeroth met once again personally, in the family circle.
Über viele Jahre war Dr. Germeroth, auch als Geschäftsführer Finanzen, dem ICV und der CA Controller Akademie treu verbunden. Zuletzt nahm er 2012 an einer ICV-Mitgliederversammlung teil. Am 1. Advent 2018 sind sich Dr. Deyhle und Dr. Germeroth noch einmal im Familienkreis persönlich begegnet.
